Testing with one of these magnets can be done by hanging it on a string to attract the item being tested towards it. Another way to test is to place item being tested at a 25 degree angle, and place a magnet smaller than item on top end and allow to slide, if it slides slow than item may contain for example 15% metal, if it slides fast, then no metal is present.
